The Federation of Afghanistan’s media Organisations and Journalists official statement regarding Amrullah Saleh’s allegation on Pajhwok Afghan News

June 16, 2016

Kabul:The Federation of Afghanistan’s media Organisations and Journalists received a complaint from Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN) against Amrullah Saleh, head of the Afghanistan Green Movement (AGM) or Rawand-i-Sabz.

The complain maintained a post from Saleh’s Facebook page which says: “For the purpose of cutting extravagance in government spending and to ensure transparency and accountability, it is better to incorporate the Pajhwok News Agency into the structure of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Presidential Palace, or whatever other state institution that you may deem fit for the purpose. Now, it is well-known almost to everyone that Pajhwok Afghan News is funded from secret government allocations and receives instructions from special quarters in the government. When special activities lose their cover in the field of intelligence, tradecraft dictates that they should be either terminated or absorbed officially into the structure of the government.”

PAN sent an e-mail to Saleh in which he was asked about the allegation he levelled against Pajhwok, but Saleh did not give to the point response and stressed over his earlier comments.

PAN provided documents to the AJF which proved that Saleh’s allegation badly damaged the status of Pajhwok and posed direct threats to its dozens of employees in Kabul and provinces.

The AJF in line with Pajhwok complain regarding Saleh’s comments announced that the head of Rawand-i-Sabz should present evidence supporting his allegation otherwise he should apologise to Pajhwok and its employees.

The federation also asked related institutions and commission on media complaint and response to violation to address PAN complains as soon as it could.

The AJF also reminded to organisations, individuals and groups that any kind of allegations against media outlets would be strictly followed by the commission and would quiet unquestioned.
