Kabul, July 1, 2007

Shakiba Sanga Amaj, a 22-years old TV anchorwoman and presenter with Shamshad TV, was shot dead in her house in Kabul.

Bashir Atif, a member of the board of directors of the local channel Shamshad, citing Amaj’s mother said that the mother heard voice of her daughter yielding for help and that sound of a bullet firing followed immediately.

The bullet hit abdomen of Ms Amaj that caused her death on the spot.

She had worked with Shamshad for a year.

Police found in their investigations that Shakiba was killed by her father Rabi Amaj and a Kabul court sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Her wedlock and her relations with a colleague of her in the TV station were issues of dispute within the family that finally resulted in her murder, the police said.
