Background

Salam Watandar is a national radio service providing news, information and entertainment to a network of 59 locally owned and operated radio stations in 34 provinces with the capacity to reach over 17 million listeners across Afghanistan.

Established in 2003, Salam Watandar is an independent, non-governmental organization, registered in Afghanistan. Throughout its history the station has vocalized and connected the voices and aspirations of its listeners from urban centers to rural areas across Afghanistan

General Function:

The M&E/Translation Assistant has overall responsibility for supporting start-up and managing operations of M&E & Translation and reporting system. In addition to establishing and managing systems to ensure compliance with all M&E / translation Assistant obligations, the M&E / Translation Assistant is responsible for developing and leading training to increase the capacity of specific staff and to raise the overall ability of Salam Watandar staff and partners involved in M&E.

M&E Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend the morning meeting every day and give new idea/report about news,
  • The candidate should work with “Bakhabar” Salam Watandar, and any other program
  • Interview people in a range of different circumstances
  • Build contacts to maintain a flow of news, for example, police and emergency

services, local council, community groups, health trusts, press officers from a variety of organizations, the general public, etc

Seek out and investigate stories via contacts, press releases and other media

  • Attend press conferences and ask questions
  • Answer the phones on the news desk and react to breaking news stories
  • Work closely with the news team, photographers and editors of Salam

Watandar Record interviews and meetings using shorthand or technical equipment Candidates should have substantial editorial experience. New media and business- news experience a plus

  • Experience writing and/or editing for the news website, newspaper or magazine is essential
  • Perform other duties as assigned by line Manager/Supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENT (KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS COMPETENCIES)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related subjects or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in

producing and media sector.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Dari/Pashto and English.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or work experience in translation are desired.
  • Having working experience with media organizations is preferred.
  • A basic understanding of the media in Afghanistan
  • A self starter and detailed oriented, and enjoy working as part of the team, as

well as independently.

Skills required

• Communication and analytical skills.

• Computer skills especially statistical analysis using Excel, among others programs
