AFJC condemns killing of a media worker in eastern Afghanistan and express concern over the kidnapped media owner

Jalalabad—Unknown gunmen killed a driver for the private local Enikas radio television network in eastern Afghanistan and abducted head of the media outlet on Tuesday December 4, official confirmed.

The men, reportedly armed with rifles, killed the driver, Kandahar, before taking engineer Zulmai coming out of a shopping center in PD4 in Jalalabad city, Nangarhar province at around 5pm local time.

The spokesman for the Nangarhar governor, Attaullah Khogyani, confirm the incident to the Afghanistan Journalists Center(AFJC) adding police had been sent to the site of the incident and the investigation is underway.

The reason for the attack and the identity of the attackers has not yet been established, Mr.khogyani said.

Nangarhar is among the volatile provinces in east of Afghanistan where both Taliban and Daesh(IS) insurgent groups are actively operating in a number of its districts.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center executive director Ahmad Quraishi condemned the attack and expressed sorrow at the incident.

“It is a grim reminder of the danger that continues to face the Afghan journalists, the authorities must immediately launch an investigation into the assault to identify the suspects and take swift action against those responsible.” Mr.Quraishi siad

We call on the Afghan authorities to make every effort to ensure immediate and safety release of En. Zulmai, Quraishi added

This comes a year after four staff of the sate-run- Radion Television Afghanistan(RTA) were murdered in Daesh(IS) attack on RTA compound in Jalalabad.
