RTA journalist Naweed Azimi dies of Covid-19

Kabul- Naweed Azimi, a reporter at state broadcaster RTA died from COVID-19 Yesterday at age 30, RTA official said Monday.

State run Radio Television Afghanistan(RTA) said in statement that the cause of Azimi’s death was complications due to the coronavirus. His friends said he had typhoid-like fever over the last two weeks and had isolated himself at home, where he passed away.

“Word can’t express how saddened and shocked I am by the death of our dearest colleague, RTA reporter Naweed Azimi. He was the only son of the family. He was so kind, humble and a great human being.” Said Ismail Miakhail director of RTA

Naweed Azimi is survived by his wife and two children.

Until now, at least 100 journalists and media workers tested positive for covid-19 in Afghanistan. Four of them including Sulaiman Yousefi, driver at ArianaTV, Shah Mahmood Haroon administrative officer from Pajhwok Afghan News and Parwin Rafiqi reporter from state-run news agency Bakhtar lost their lives to corona virus so far.
